Once seated you will notice you are not the only one doing the exam at the that specific appointment time. The examiner will arrive and call your name, introduce himself and expects to see one of the following documents: - Driving licence with an ID picture
- Other type of ID such as passport if driving licence haven't got a picture.
- Counter part licence (green paper)
- Appointment letter
You will also require the following:
- A suitable car for the test
- A road worthiness certificate - MOT (if applicable) a tax disc displayed on your machine
- Your theory test certificate
Please note that If you do not have the correct documents your test may not proceed otherwise you will be escorted out to the car you intend to drive. There will be cases when the examiner's examiners will go in the car you intend to drive, don't panic this is a routine check on examiners. Eyesight You will be asked to read a plate number at about 67feet (20.5 metres, Do not forget your glasses or eye contacts, should you fail to read the number asked for, your exam will be terminated and you will automatically fail your exam. If in doubt the examiner will measure the distance. Show me, Tell me Car safety and maintenance has been introduced recently due to high levels of complaint and surveys that show that the drivers did not know much or nothing about the car themselves and was getting too reliable on the mechanic for simple checks like tyre pressure. You will be asked 2 questions at ramdon such as how you turn your headlights on from where he is expecting to see satisfactory answer or answers. Once seated you can adjust your mirrors and seat if you need to, your examiner will be writing in the meanwhile some details about the car also checking that the car is taxed for security reasons. Exam You will be then be briefed on what is going to to happen in the next 35-40 mins, where he will give you clear and plenty of time instructions of when to turn, if the roads are a bit tricky to follow in a reasonable order then the examiner will give you some help usually at huge roundabouts, complicated junction or traffic lights, they will ask you for 2 or 3 of the reverse manoeuvres to be carried out at specific locations of the examiners choice, you can get up to no more than 16 mistakes in the whole exam to pass but not serious or dangerous should be allowed to happen and 5 mistakes over the same category will be considered as serious. the examiner will record your mistakes and usually he will not do it straight away as it happens but 1 minute later, the examiner is also memorising bit by bit so that by the end of the test he will give you an exact report on when and how your mistakes occured. if you pass or fail the test you will be told so straight away once finished your exam. then you will either get a sorry a or a paper form to fill if you pass for both you will receive a driving report.
